THE IMPORTANCE OF ALLWAYS POWER WASHING BEFORE ANY EXTERIOR PAINTING

Back in 2017 I will never forget this client that I gave an exterior paint quote, her name was Kery, Kery was really upset because her house was peeling paint everywhere around the house and she had the house painted a year before in 2016 she was confused and didn’t understand why that was happening, in just a few minutes talking to her I found out that the previous painter didn’t power washing before painting. She also mentioned that the previous painter told her “Scraping and sanding would be enough to clean off the house.”

Whatever you do don’t paint your homes exterior without POWER WASHING.

HERE I WILL GIVE YOU 3 REASOND WHY!!

1.When you power wash you remove all dirt, all dust and mold. If you paint without power washing even if you had primed, your coat of paint wont bond properly with the undercoat and it will cause the paint to start peeling.

2.When you power wash, the house using bleach or simple green it will help on the prep work before painting. It makes the old peeling paint looser and softer, making it easier to remove when scrapping and sanding!

3. Speaking of prep work, here is where many painters make a common mistake after all the hard work of scraping and sanding now it’s time to do a light power washing. This will guarantee that your paint will last you many years. After scraping and sanding there is a lot of dust on the surface, so to remove it do a light power wash.

REMEMBER we want the primer and the paint to bond with the undercoat or exposed wood, so power wash your home.

After applying all 3 steps to Keri’s home, I came by her house 5 years later and there was very minimum peeling, and she was very happy still with our work!!!

DO IT THE RIGHT WAY, DO IT THE FIRST BOSTON PAINTERS WAY
